In a time of critical budget cuts, one local urgent care provider, OnPoint Urgent Care offers more than a bandaid to the Douglas County School District. OnPoint Urgent Care has partnered with DCSC to raise money for the district athletic programs by providing sports physical to the district athletes with a unique payment method. Sports physicals vouchers will be for sale throughout the district and all monies collected will be kept by the district. OnPoint Urgent Care has volunteered to provide their services free of charge so the schools can keep all of the proceeds earned.
OnPoint has three convenient locations to serve the Douglas County School District as well as the Cherry Creek School District. While no school can tell parents and students where to seek medical treatment, they do provide resources. The fundraising partnership with Douglas County schools will allow athletes to pay for their physicals at their school. The athlete receives a voucher for the payment which he or she will then present to the staff at OnPoint. No appointment is needed and OnPoint is open seven days a week so it allows flexibility for busy parents.
When asked about the fundraising program, OnPoint CEO Dr. Jeff Bushnell states, “The benefit that we see is that the athletics programs will be able to afford more and better equipment in a time of drastic annual budget cuts. We are happy to contribute to the District by providing the free services and helping to get those student athletes on the fields and courts.”
No high school athlete is allowed to participate in organized sports without a yearly physical and last year alone, OnPoint medical providers provided many hundreds of physicals between the three locations.
Chris Mathewson, head athletic trainer for Ponderosa High School, expresses his enthusiasm for the program. “I am excited about this opportunity. The chance to have the athletic training programs of DCSD supported by an MD group that is willing to donate 100% of the proceeds from a sports physical to support our athletic training programs is awesome. I look forward to this relationship for our athletes as well as our staff!”.
OnPoint Urgent Care was established in 2009 by Dr. Jeff Bushnell, Dr. Paul Morton and Dr. Jon Mihok. They recognized the need for an urgent care model that not only delivers high quality medical attention but unparalleled customer service in a convenient, welcoming environment. This philosophy translates into everything the partners do with their practice. From staffing each facility with board certified physicians and emergency center trained support staff to the luxurious surroundings including flat screen televisions and fireplaces, every detail is designed with the patient’s comfort and experience in mind. The difference is evident the minute a patient comes through the door. Similarly, the attention to detail doesn’t stop once the patient leaves the clinic as follow up calls are a regular part of the OnPoint treatment protocol.

On Saturday, March 16th OnPoint provided medial support for the Highlands Ranch St. Patrick’s Day 5K. This popular event draws over 500 participants and supporters each year. It is sponsored by the Highlands Ranch Community Association and is always a local favorite to kick off Spring festivities. Luckily, this year’s medical triage only included a couple of bandaids!
OnPoint Urgent Care is pleased to announce another sponsorship of a Blood Drive to benefit Children’s Hospital. While donating blood to the depleted blood stores is always important, it is especially helpful during and just following holiday seasons. This year, we are hosting our first of a series of Blood Drives on 1-3-13 (January 3, 2013) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at our Highlands Ranch clinic located at 9137 Ridgeline Blvd.
For your convenience, we offer both appointments and walk-in donation capabilities. To sign up for an appointment to donate blood, please register on our website by clicking here.
Donating blood is an easy way to give back to so many children in need. Each year, approximately 8,000 units of blood products are transfused into sick and injured infants, children and teens. Without this blood, many of the lifesaving procedures performed at Children’s Hospital Colorado would not be possible according to the hospital website.
Wondering if you are eligible to donate? You may be eligible to donate blood if you:
Are in good health
Have not donated blood in the last 56 days
Are symptom free of a cold or flu
Are at least 18 years of age, or 17 with written parental consent

Have not delivered a baby in the last six weeks
Have no history of HIV/AIDS

Approximately 2,000 Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree residents joined the festivities to visit with Santa, enjoyed hot chocolate and danced to the Holiday music provided by Go Toyota.

Dr. Jon Mihok headed up the medical team along with several technicians and nurses from OnPoint. They handled everything from minor scrapes and bumps to administration of IV ‘s for exhausted athletes. OnPoint was well supported with full ambulance service.
Local dentist Dr. Stephen Stein has been suspected of re-using needles and syringes for more than 12 years. If so, his patients are at risk of infection with HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.
OnPoint’s Dr. Jeff Bushnell spoke with 9 News about the potential risks and the processes for determining the presence of infection.
